Accommodations in Danba

There are some good hotels are available in Danba. And there are more under construction. The so called good hotels are 2-3 star hotels with modern facilities and some with western toilet, decent and clean rooms. These hotels are usually located in the town of Danba. Remember that the town of Danba is town of buildings stretched into four different rivers valleys. There are also some lower level accommodations in the town of Danba, that like 1-2 star hotels with basic facilities. The 3 star hotels will have decent rooms with air-con and proper shower facility and even western toilet. Rooms in a local guesthouse are more basic but clean and have attached bathroom usually with squat toilet but with hot shower.

Another popular accommodation is the guesthouse in Zhonglu or Jiaju Tibetan Village. These guesthouses are owned by local Jiarong Tibetan people and usually with a local Tibetan Style with colorful roof and walls. The rooms in the houses are with different kinds. Some are nicer with attached bathrooms; some are more basic without bathrooms. But all are quite clean. These rooms do not have western toilet rather Chinese toilets. Internet, hot shower and electricity are available in these guesthouses and the hosts and hostesses are usually very hospitable and friendly. Normally these guesthouses provide food for guests. Staying in one of the guesthouses here is very recommended.

Food and Restaurants

There are some Sichuan restaurants in the town of Danba but not too many. These restaurants serve basically Chinese food such as stir-fries. Some smaller restaurants serve noodles. While you are staying in the guesthouse in the village, the host will usually serve local food such as pork, yak and veges. Some of the meat may contain much fat as it is with local style.

Drinking Water

The same as anywhere else in China, water from the tap is not drinkable. Always use bottled water or boiled water from your hotel or restaurants. Most of the hotel rooms have a water heating bottle for the guests to cook water. You can buy bottled water in the town of Danba, while in the villages the drinking water you can get is usually from the kettle which is boiled hot water. Shops are limited in the villages.
