Daocheng and Yading simplely are two different places. But tourists usually put them together in their travel plan. Administratively Daocheng is a county in Ganzi, while Yading actually is just a village in Riwa Town of Daocheng County. Tourists usually firstly get to Daocheng, and then transfer to Yading by vehicle.
You can take flight to get to Daocheng Yading. Chengdu – Daocheng was the easliest air line connecting Yading Airport. Currently, there are more flight schedules released, and travelers can also take flights to Daocheng Yading from Chongqing and Xian. Kunming – Daocheng is supposed to open in the coming future. In the summer of 2013, the Yading Airport welcomed its first flight from Chengdu, which now makes it very easy for people to reach Daocheng Yading. Many people believe Daocheng Yading will become the next Jiuzhaigou because of this great event. Some people start to complain for the coming crowds, but on the other hands, they can’t resist the charm of Daocheng Yading.
You can also drive or take bus from Chengdu to Daocheng. Bus is available at Xinnanmen Bus Station. There is one schedule everyday (during busy travel season such as July and August there are two schedules) that departs by 6.00am to 6:30am and arrive by 8.30pm at Daocheng Yading on the same day. There are also buses schedule from Shangri-La in Yunnan Province to Daocheng every day by 6am and arrive by 3pm each day.
In the past, tourists stream to the National Road 318 mainly for the attractive landscape along this road as well as its final destination – Tibet. But today, many tourists turn their way to Daocheng which used to be an county. The perfect assembly of snow mountains, wild forests, lakes, prairie of Yading is the pull power upon travelers.
There is new updates on the public bus to Daocheng Yading from Chengdu. For travelers who wish to go to Daocheng Yading directly without stops along the way, there is direct bus from Xinnanmen Bus Station in Chengdu every morning by 6:20am and arrive in Yading (Xianggelila Zhen) by the evening (if traffic jam happens there maybe one night spent on the way). From Yading back to Chengdu the bus starts by 6am also at Yading Bus Station and arrives Chengdu Xinnanmen by around 8.30pm each day. It is total 785km and takes around 12-13 hours without traffic jam. Ticket costs 300 yuan per person.
The following info is for travelers who make stops along the way, note there is bus from Kangding to Yading every day and you can also wait by Kangding bus station for the bus from Chengdu to Yading in the morning by 9am if you wish to go from Kangding directly to Yading without stopping in Daocheng.
However the following information applies when in low travel season when they may suspend the direct bus or for anyone who wishes to make stops and visits along the way to Yading.
From Chengdu to Yading using complete public bus, you need to use the the following transfers:
01.From Chengdu to Daocheng by Public Bus;
02.From Daocheng to Riwa by Public Bus
03.From Riwa to Yading entrance by Public Bus(Riwa is where the entrance of Yading located but itself is a 5km town)
From Yading Entrance, you need to use in-park transfers:
From 2019 there is one bus from Chengdu at Xinnanmen Bus Station everyday departing at 06:20 am. It takes in total 12-13 hours to get to Daocheng (not Yading). Normally it arrives in Daocheng by late afternoon by around 6.00 to 7.00 pm or later due to possible traffic. The bus ticket costs around CNY280 a person. Daocheng and Yading are two different places, from Daocheng to Yading it is 72km. Bus from Chengdu takes you to the bigger place Daocheng and then from there you need to use another transfer to Yading at Riwa.
From Daocheng there is a bus to Xianggelila Zhen(Riwa) in the morning at and one in the afternoon at Daocheng Bus Station costs 50 yuan taking about 2 hours to get to Xianggelila Zhen(Riwa), the entrance of Yading Park. From Daocheng to Xianggelila Zhen, a more convenient way to get there is to use a shared taxi, which costs about 60 yuan per person and also takes about 2 hours. To charter a car it costs about 400 yuan from Daocheng to Yading. Shared taxi and car rental are usually available by around Daocheng Bus Station by individual drivers.
You can either use the direct bus from Yading for one full day for around 15 hours. Or if you can't catch the direct bus then you need to get to Daocheng first by the means of traveling from Yading to Daocheng. It is the same that you find the bus at Daocheng Bus Station. It departs by 6.00am in the morning at Daocheng Bus Station and arrives in Chengdu by late afternoon at Xinnanmen Bus Station. Price for a ticket costs about 280 yuan. From Yading there is also bus to Kangding at 6am every morning. Ticket costs 185 yuan per person.
There are buses from Yading to Daocheng and Daocheng Airport, Kangding, Chengdu and Shangrila. There is bus available everyday from 6.30am in the morning to Shangrila in Yunnan total 400km and costs CNY128 per person. And it usually takes around 7 hours. Read Details.
