Milk Lake is within the park of Yading. It is called Niunai Hai in local language.
Milk Lake is one of the highlights if Yading Park and one of the ultimate reasons people come to visit this place. It is located at the highest place of the park at the foot of Mt. Jampayang and south to Mt. Chenrezig at the altitude of 4500m above sea level. A walkiing from trip from Luorong Yak Ranch to get here usually takes 4-5 hours. From 2019 there is a new boardwalk that visitor can use but it is still a far and difficult place to reach in Yading Park. Milk Lake is called Erongtso in Tibetan. Milk Lake is an ancient glacial lake, like a drop of water, covers an area of 0.5 hectares. It is surrounded by snow-capped mountains. The lake is clear and blue. It is famous for its exquisite and elegant water blue and green. There are large glaciers above the lake. Legend has it that it is a holy lake that can cure hoarseness. In the foothills of Mt. Jampayang, the Milk Lake is with blue water in the middle, and a circle of white sand around the lake rim. This milky white sand rim is the origin of the name of the Milk Lake. The altitude here has reached 4,500 meters, and it is usually where the furthest visitors get to in Yading Park.
Best time to take photos of Milk Lake is between 12pm and 1pm when the sun is at the highest. Now that there is a platform where visitors can take photos by standing/sitting on it, but all around Milk Lake are good spots to take photos of this lake and its sorrounding mountains.
