Shangrila Town/Riwa

Shangri-La Town (Xianggelila Zhen) is located outside of Yading Nature Reserve. It was formerly called Riwa. (Please note this is not the Shangrila City of northern Yunnan). Riwa is now in general indicating Yading. But Riwa and Yading Village are two different places.

Xianggelila Zhen/Riwa

Riwa is the entrance of Yading Nature Reserve. Travelers going to Yading nature Reserve will go via Riwa and normally will have one or multiple nights staying at Riwa. At Riwa there are many hotels with different levels and restaurants and shops but Riwa is a small place. The town streches out in the valley and it is around over 4km. The center part of the town is by the entrance of the town where there are many restaurants and shops.

Shops in Riwa/Shangrila Town

There are options on different food including sichuan food, tibetan food and burgers. Riwa is a small place but has shops that you can buy basic supplies such as warm clothes, snacks, etc. There is also outdoor gear shops in Riwa where you can buy gas canisters.

Shangri-La Town is located 71 kilometers south of Daocheng County, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province. 28°33? north latitude, 100°20? east longitude, 2800m above sea level. The beautiful Yading National Nature Reserve is in the territory, 34 kilometers from the Yading Scenic Area, 25 kilometers from the Echushan Scenic Area, and more than 60 kilometers from the Kasi Hell Valley Scenic Area. Shangri-La Town is the core of the “Shangri-La Eco-tourism Zone”, “The Soul of Shangri-La”. Shangri-La Town is located in the south of Daocheng County. The elevation of most areas is about 2700-3500 meters, and the land of the town is about 2800 meters. The mountains in the countryside are stretched. Locals are mainly Tibetan people but we've seen more and more Chinese people come here to run business as tourism is booming.

There is also a bus station in Riwa.
