Dzogchen Monastery is situated in Gengda of Dzogchen in northern Derge with an elevation of almost 10000 ft. It is the monastery of Holy Reincarnation. This Nyingmapa monastery is one of the six great Nyingmapa schools in Tibetan Buddhism of Tibet. It was built in 1685 and during the past 300 years, nutured many Buddhist masters. Buddhist caves used for meditation scatter the mountains in which Dzogchen Monastery is located. With over 500 monks and about 100 schools in Kham, Dzogchen Monastery has great significance in Tibetan Kham. It was built on a meadow against a hill, there is excellent natural view in front of Dzogchen Monastery.
Dzogchen Monastery is also called Zhuqen Monastery, or in Chinese Zhuqing Monastery. Dzogchen indicates the large area of where the monastery and the neighboring area including the town of Dzogchen and the open land and the mountains in this area. South to Dzogchen Monastery there are some big mountains over 5500 meters. The beautiful lakes including Dangzitso Lake and Etso Lake are in this area in the mountains.

Dangzitso Lake is one of the biggest lakes in Zhuqen and an easily-accessed one near the road. From Dangzitso one can see the unclimbed 5642-m Mt. Dolanglong and several other untouched mountains over 5000m. Etso Lake is a small lake in the valley south to road before the road pass to Zhuqen from Manigango.

Ashu Grassland, with an average elevation of around 4000 meters, covering Yulong, Zhuqing and Ashu, is believed to be the hometown of Gesar, the legendary figure in Tibetan history. This 850 square km grassland locates at the upper section of Yalong River, with hundreds of small lakes lying upon. It is one of the sacred destination in Tibet due to its origin of Epic of Gesar.
In each August, a traditional ceremony in memery of the Great Gesar as well as its glory, will be held on the Ashu Grassland. People would gather here for horse-racing contests, dancing, singing and Buddhist debates. It is 80km's north to Manigango and en route Zhuqing Monastery, a Ningmapa school monastery built in 1685, another spectacular shrine in Tibetan Kham.
