Palyul Monastery (Baiyu Monastery) is a Ningymapa Monatery located in Baiyu County, one of the three greatest Ningymapa Monasteries in Kham. The other two being Kathok Monastery in Baiyu and Dzogchen Monastery in Zhuqing. Palyul Monastery is one of the five family temple of King of Derge. Palyul Monastery was built in 1675 in Qing Dynasty and has survived 12 generations of Renpoche. Palyul means land of good luck.
The building of the temple of Payyul resembles a Mandala, a layer wall of building on top of another. There are 8 Buddhist events held in Palyul Monastery each year, among which the most grand celebration is the "10 Days of Palyul" held from 1 to 10 of the 3rd month in Tibetan Calendar. Celebrations include Buddha Painting/Thangka Display, ritual dances, etc. It is one of the biggest celebrations that will attract many pilgrims from all over Kham and Amdo.
