The spring and autumn seasons are the most suitable tourist season for Mount Emei. The climate is moderate and the scenery is charming.
Spring (April) to Emei, it is the time of the azalea blossoms, you can see the colorful rhododendron sea. In addition to enjoying the flowers, you can also participate in the Emeishan Mountain Meeting (which lasts for one month in March and April), and enjoy the grand occasion of the Lantern Festival. In the autumn, Emei Mountain is beautiful and elegant, and the red leaves of the mountains are the symbol of its autumn scenery. The autumn of Emei Mountain is short-lived. From mid-September to the end of October each year, the leaves on the mountain turn from green to yellow, from yellow to red, standing on the golden dome, overlooking the valley, frosty red leaves, clouds and fog, majestic.
Cloud Sea at Golden Summit in March
Mt. Emei is a big place. The climate at the base of the mountain has a huge difference as to climate on its summit. Below is a historical weather record of the weather in Emeishan city by the base of the mountain. Because of the alitude difference, temperature by the summit and by its base is up o over 10C. In every season, it is wise to bring extra layers when going up to the summit.
Emeishan Weather
From our experience, the weather at the top above Leidongping is usually very unpredictable and changes fast. The mountain itself is higher than any other mountains around it so its top has a unique weather and often changes very quickly wih sunny and foggy, or even rainny at the same time.
Mt. Emei is one of the most popular tourist attractions in China and it has many visitors everyday. The busiest time of the year usually include July, August, October and Chinese New Year time, weekends, etc. Usually traveling during these times you will see many other visitors. For hiking trips, you only see people at certain sections including Leidongping to Gold Summit, Wannian Temple to Wuxianggang, etc.
Emeishan Summer
In General Mt Emei is a rainy place. There is good chance that during your visit to the summit you won't see anything in the thick fog if you are traveling in spring, summer or autumn seasons. On a hiking trip, you often feel the dampness in the air and it never gets dry in every season.
