Chengdu Tianfu International Airport is a major aviation hub located in Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan Province in southwestern China. Officially opened in June 2021, this modern airport represents a significant addition to China's air transport infrastructure. It is one of the biggest airports in China. Up until 2023 all international flights to Chengdu have been running in this airport.
One issue is it may be too far from the city of Chengdu where most travelers aim to go to. It is around 65km southeast to the city center of Chengdu and takes usually 1h to 2h’s time from the airport to the city of Chengdu.
To travel from Chengdu Tianfu International Airport to the city of Chengdu, you have several transportation options:
Taxi:Taxis are readily available at the airport. Follow the signs to the taxi stand, and you can hire a taxi to take you directly to your destination in Chengdu. Make sure to have the address of your destination written in Chinese, as many taxi drivers may not speak English at all. A taxi fee costs between CNY300 to CNY500 depending on the time of using taxi and depending on your destination in the city of Chengdu.
Airport Shuttle Bus:Tianfu International Airport offers shuttle bus services to various locations in Chengdu. Check the airport's information desk for details on routes and schedules. You may basically follow the signs when you exit the airport and you will find the shuttle bus location. Shuttle buses are a budget-friendly option and can take you to key areas in the city. A shuttle bus takes around CNY30 and takes around 1h to 1.5h to get to the city of Chengdu. Airport Shuttle Bus is available 24 hours and have more frequent buses during daytime than nighttime. The end terminal of Airport Shuttle Bus is by Chunxi Road by the panda building in the city center of Chengdu.
Metro:Chengdu Metro Line 18 connects the airport to the city center. You can take the metro for a convenient and affordable journey. Make sure to check the metro map and plan your route accordingly. The end of Line 18 is at Chengdu South Railway Station and connects to Line 1 and Line 7 and can further travel from these 2 lines. Using metro usually takes around 1.5h to 2h.

Chengdu Tianfu International Airport is relatively new, and the surrounding area may not have as many hotels compared to more established airport regions. However, with the continuous development in the region, there might be an increase in accommodation options over time.
There is one hotel right outside of the checking counters. This could be a good choice of hotel if you have an early flight. Other than this there are some hotels near the airport around 5-10km away that will need a transfer but also good to stay.
