Kangding Airport (KGT)

Kangding Airport was built in 2007. It is located at Kangding in western Sichuan, 38km south to the town of Kangding and 45km north to Minya Konka, 50km south to Tagong. Elevation of this Airport is at 4300 meters. It is one of the highest airports in the world. There are lots of direct flights to Kangding from Chengdu, Chongqing. It has scheduled flights from March to November each year. In winter it is too much snow and ice for landing thus suspended.

Getting Around at Kangding Airport

At the airport there is no accommodations available, the nearest town is Kangding where you can find many hotels and hostels to stay for overnight. Kangding is one of the biggest towns in western Sichuan. At Kangding there are many restaurants, hotels and shops. By driving to Kangding from the airport it is about 1 hour. From the airport you can also drive to Tagong for 1.5 hours as well. From Tagong you can start a Kangding Hiking trip. From the airport to Hailuogou Glacier Park it is about 3 hours by driving. At Tagong and Hailuogou there are some hotels available. Also from Kangding airport you can drive to Sertar(7 hours), Derge(8 hours), Danba(3 hours).

Taxis are available when there is flight arrival at the airport. The taxi from the airport to Kangding costs within 200 yuan and to Tagong costs about 300 yuan. There are also airport shuttle buses available at the airport. The bus from airport to Kangding costs about 50 yuan per person and takes about 1 hour. These buses are not very reliable on both time and price.

From Chengdu to Kangding there is one flight everyday but in winter it may stop due to the bad weather. From Chongqing the flight may change according to the travel season.
