This is a 6-day domestic Genyen Hiking Tour starting and ending in Chengdu City. You will join a domestic group with other Chinese hikers. This tour goes to the best part of Genyen including Eye of Genyen, Lenggu Monastery, Zongna Hot Spring, South of Genyen Glacier View. You will enjoy the wild landscape in western Sichuan through a well-paced lodging hiking.
Book NowArrive in Chengdu and go check in to hotel. This night of economy hotel is included for this night. Meet tour guide and be briefed on the trekking tour. Free to explore the city on your own if you arrive early in the day. Recommend to arrive city of Chengdu no later than 6pm if possible.

Today is a full day driving to Litang from Chengdu via the famous G318 highway. We will have an early start usually before 7am and have lunch half way. During rainy seasons the motorway to Kangding may be damaged by landslide and may take longer time driving on alternative road. Please prepare drinking water and snacks in case of delay on the drive and possible traffic along the way. Use toilet every time your vehicle makes a stop. The drive after Kangding you will be driving on high altitude at above 4000m for most of the time. Please be aware of the high altitude/low oxygen and avoid exhausting activities. You will arrive in Litang by late afternoon or evening.

Road to Litang
Today we will start by a 2-3 hour drive to Genyen and start our hiking. The drive out of Litang towards the mountain will go over a 4700m pass and takes 2-3 hours. We will arrive in Lamaya and the over another road pass where we will have a stop to see a panoramic view of Genyen mountains by its south and southeast side including Mt. Genie, Mt. Xiaozha Gana, Mt. Hutsa, Mt. Kaimailong, Mt. Kuriganzong. We will then start by the small river after dropping down to the valley and either use a local car or motorbike to cover the first 5km to Xigetong Camp before start hike for around 3km to the Hot Spring. The walk will be along the river and into the valley. If you walk fast you may continue on following the river and reach Kaimailong West Camp for another 2-3km walking. We will stay by the hot springs for some time before hike out the same way. We will use shared lodge by Ranrika Village for overnight.

In the morning after breakfast we will drive out to Lenggu Monastery. En route we will make a stop by the Eye of Genyen to take photos. Eye of Genyen is a round-shaped pond on the side of dirt road between Ranrika and Naigado Village. This location also provides another chance of seeing the Genyen mountains by the south and southeast in a panoramic manner. After photo stop by Eye of Genyen we will continue drive for another 20 minutes and arrive Lenggu Monastery where we will start to walk for around 3.5km to the former Lenggu Monastery inside the valley. The former monastery is abandoned but still 2 families live there. From the old Lenggu Monastery we will see the east face of Mt. Genie itself with splendid glacier views as well as some other prominent peaks including Xiaqiong, Phurba, Dorjecha, etc. After a short stay by Lenggu Monastery we will walk out the same way and drive to today’s camp by Hangda Camp. We should have some spare time by this camp in afternoon to relax and take photos of Genyen South Glaciers since Hangda Camp is considered to be one of the most beautiful locations in Genyen.

Lenggu Monastery
Today the walking is longer and harder. We will head out towards Genyen South to gain closer views of the beautiful glaciers above grassland. We will walk from 3800m to 4500m and back total 10km of walking. The walking will be on open grassland with views all the way. Our destination is a solo tree on top of grassland where it poses a sense of loneliness on this land. We will turn around from the tree and walk back to our camp and then drive back 2-3 hours to Litang. Today is considered to be the best view day of this trip, please make sure your phone has enough power to take a lot of photos.

Summer Hiking in Genyen

Today is a full day drive back to Chengdu. Please book departure flight/train the next day in case of possible delay on traffic. Arrive Chengdu usually by evening between 7pm and 9pm. Genyen hiking tour ends.

4. This adventure involves walking at parks and horse trails. So walking boots are necessary for this tour. In this hiking. Elevation at most of these sights are quite high as much to 4700 meters. Precautions for mountain sickness are necessary as well. Rain proof and Sun block are also necessary when you are traveling at these places for weather changes quickly at high altitude.
5. This is a ground tour. It goes to places where the tourist facilities may not meet with standards. Western Sichuan is not a fully-developed place and unexpected incidents may happen due to bad weather, landslide in certain seasons and possible heavy traffic jams.
6. Traveling to the listed places will expect lower standard services at hotels and restaurants even if they maybe the best choices. The service level is not as up to what you have in places like Chengdu. The hotel people don't speak English nor do the people from restaurants. These places are quite far, wild but beautiful. As authenticity comes often with less comfortability. Public Toilet can be really bad. You are always recommended to use your toilet in your hotel while you don't want to use the public toilet or do it in the open wild. You are recommended to have toilet paper with you. Food are with limited options at most of the places. Basically you can find Chinese Food with Sichuan style. On a guided trip you can have them customized into vegetarian or non/less spicy.
