Genyen is the largest mountain massif in Sichuan and in eastern Tibetan Plateau. This place is an unexplored gem of China, home to dozens of unsummited mountains and unexplored lakes. Genyen is the wild part of the wild Sichuan.
Hiking and Trekking is the best way to see Genyen in general. The popular hiking trips include the Genyen Outer Kora and the Genyen Middle Kora. Both treks involve long days of walking and camping at high altitude but beautiful places.
This Nigong Monastery (or Lenggu Monastery or Rengko Monastery) is one of the oldest Karmapa Monasteries in Tibetan regions. It was first built in 1164AD and was woshiped by many Tibetans. It is located at the heart of Mount Genyen in the Gamula Valley east to the peak of Genyen.
Eye of Genyen refers to a small round lake by the village up Naigando in Genyen. It is a new spot of interest and has become popular in China. It is located 20 meters by the road between village of Zetong and Village of Naiganduo.
Gemu Village is also called Daxiukuo on google map. It is a small village by west of Genyen Mountains and a village in the valley that is generally called Gemu. It is located within Batang County precinct and it is about 2 hours drive from Batang to Gemu.
Genyen Inner Kora or Genyen Inner Kora Trek is a trekking route walking around Mt. Genyen herself. It takes usually 4-5 days to do this kora trek from and back to Litang. It is one of the most wild treks in Sichuan or even the whole China.
An outter kora of Genyen takes around 7 to 10 days by walking. It starts by Lenggu Monastery by the south and ends by Anju Village by its north. It is now a trekking route getting famous in China but is still considered to be wild trek though some sections are now well-paved road.
Available to foreign climbers, Genyen massif is one of the best options for foreign climbers in China. It is home to over dozens of unsummited peaks with different difficulty level. The big mountains include Mt. Genie itself, Mt. Kaimailong, Mt. Xiazha and Mt. Hutsa.
The turquoise lake located northwest to the main range of Genyen and a 150km west to Litang Xian by driving. Tsopu Lake, or Cuopu Lake is also one of the less explored places around here. It is one of most beautiful places in Sichuan.
Genyen Massif is resembles a blooming flower. A big circuit trip can also be done on a motorbike. This trip is also called the outer kora or the loop. A motor bike trip will take 3-4 days on the kora and brings you the best views of Genyen.
Ganden Thubchen Choekhorling or Litang Chode Monastery, or simply Choekhorling Monastery, is an over 400 years old Gelugpa Monastery in Tibetan Kham of Litang(Lithang). It is one of the most important monasteries in Kham. It is located at the northern suburb of Litang on a mountain side. Its massive complex of construction and delicate architectural technology make itself famous in northern Kham.
The hidden lake with a Patagonia style that has peaks surrounded, Xiaozha Lake is one of the places to be explored in Genyen Massif. Xiaozha Lake shares the same name of the Xiaozha Shan and the whole valley. It is located at elevation of 4600 meters and with fairly difficult access only by foot.
Mount Kaimailong is sometimes written as Mount Kamailong. Kaimailong is in Tibetan language, it means the holy god of Kaimailong, a deity in Tibetan religion. Kaimailong is a technical rock mountain and the 3rd highest mountain in Genyen Massif.
