Since 2021 there has been a dramatic grow of Panda lovers within China that many more people are now wanting to see pandas. A lot of the pandas with unique-looking, different and interesting charactors have been loved by panda lovers and followed on social media. Many panda bases are swamped by visitors. We hereby list the famous celebrity pandas in China and have their basic information so you know where they are living, and their bio.

He Hua (Nickname: Hua Hua)

Hua Hua

Hua Hua (official name He Hua) is one of the main reasons why people all over China suddenly start to love pandas. The social media vedios of Hua Hua first went viral and it sparkled the interest of the public wanting to see pandas from 2021. Hua Hua is one of the main drives of large increase of visitors to Chengdu each summer and each holidays in China since pandas become popular among the public. Many believe Hua Hua is an under-developed panda that she doesn't have a neck, and her slow-moving, slow-eating feature making her standing out from the other pandas. Hua Hua is being bullyed on a regular bases because she is slow, and this made her even more loved by people. Hua Hua is currently living in Chengdu Panda Base in No. 6 Panda Village. On a regular day visitors need to queue up to see pandas. The queue normally takes 1 hour on a normal day. If by holiday it may take up to 2 hours or more. And every visitor only has only 3 minutes to see Hua Hua. In 2024 Hua Hua has been entitled "Honorary Director of Sichuan Tourist Bureau" for her contribution to Sichuan Tourism.

He Ye

He Ye

Hua Ye is twin sister of He Hua (Hua Hua). He Ye was thought a boy until Jan 2024. He Ye is kept in the same panda enclosure with He Hua. He Ye is the one that usually bullys Hua Hua and steal Hua Hua's food. He Ye is twice the size of He Hua. Because He Ye is kept in the same enclosure it also needs to queue to see He Ye and takes a long time too. It's possible these two sisters will be separated in the next year when He Ye and He Hua are adults.

Yuan Run

Yuan Run has a big head when she was little. She was a celebrity since childhood. The Chinese state media recorded her birth. Yuan Run means fluffy and chubby, which is the biggest feature of Yuan Run. People also call her "little puppy" due to her naughty charactor of playing on dirt and making herself dirty. Yuan Run is also the nursing mother of Hua Hua.

Run Yue

Run Yue has a nick name Er Gou, from her mother Xiao Gou(little puppy). She has a sister Run Jiu. Run Yue is the second child of her family so she was named Er Gou. Run Yue used to be kept together with Hua Hua and she also bullys on Hua Hua and steal her food.

Mei Lan

Mei Lan is a male panda born in US. Mei Lan is the first born panda after Sino-US coorperation on Giant Panda Breeding project between Chengdu Panda Base and Atlanta Zoo. In 2010 Mei Lan returns to China and was found a male rather than formerly thought to be a female. The Chinese name "Mei Lan" is a very femaline name because he was mistaken as a female. Mei Lan has 23 offsprings, some of which are famous pandas including He Hua, He Ye and Meng Lan.

Mei Lan - Rou Rou

Mei Lan has a very round and chubby face. She is called Mei Cai Kou Rou(one of the famous Chinese dishes), indicating her round and chubby looking face. She always manages to get herself covered in dirt. Mei Lan is one of the chubbiest pandas alive. She is mild-tempered and likes to hide her food when she hears something.

Ao Li Ao

Born on the same day of London Olympic Games, Ao Li Ao got his name Oreo choosen from panda lovers internationally. Oreo is black and white, like pandas. And he also carrys on a charactor from his mother. From 2015 Oreo moved to Dujiangyan Panda Valley and start his "coal-mining" business, meaning since then he's often covered in dirt he plays with his mates. He is also known for his failed "prison-break" incident in 2014.

Fu Bao
