A panda base is planned to be open in Beijing in 2025. This is the first panda base ever built outside of the natural habitat of pandas in China to make the pandas more accessible for visitors.
The construction of the Beijing base of the National Conservation and Research Center for Giant Pandas has been fully launched, with plans to introduce 50 giant pandas. The base is located in Qinglonghu Forest Park, Qinglonghu Town, Fangshan District, adjacent to Chongqing Reservoir, on the west side of Beijing West Sixth Ring Road, and about a 40 minute drive from Beijing West Railway Station. The project covers an area of approximately 2000 acres and plans to introduce 50 giant pandas. Among them, the first phase covers an area of 952 acres, introducing 40 giant pandas, as well as other wild animals such as golden monkeys and red pandas.
The base is planned to open and operate within 2025.
