New Giant Panda Infant Born in Chengdu

At 6 AM, May 29, a Giant Panda infant was born in the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding weighing 135g. The name of the panda mom is “Mei Bang”. Currently, both the mom and infant are health, and under special care.

Mei Bang Was Giving Birth

The Giant Panda keeper in the base told us that Mei Bang started to reduce appetite 20 days before giving birth, appeared restlessness and walked back and forth in the yard, which is the normal sign of childbirth. Mei Bang gave birth to her baby at around 6 AM successful. It was the first time of being mom for Mei Bang who seemed to be having no idea she just had a parturition. She didn’t know what was happening at all, and also didn’t know how to hug the panda infant in her arms. So the panda keeper had to transfer the newly born infant to the incubator because its temperature was decreasing.After an hour of warming and mild feeding, panda keepers brought the baby to Mei Bang. The infant screamed ceaselessly, and finally raised the maternity of Mei Bang. She stand up and put the infant into her arms and licked it tenderly. Actually, many captive Giant Panda moms are usually don’t know how to raise their babies for the first time childbirth, and need to be guided to be a mother. As the time passing by, they will become experienced very much.

The newly being mom panda Mei Bang was born together with her twin brother Yong Bang in September, 2008 in Japan, and moved to Chengdu in 2013. The birth of Mei Bang Junior expanded the scale of Bang Family which is the largest oversea giant panda family so far.
