New Pandas Spotted near Chengdu Dayi after 10 Years

On May 14th news from Dayi County that after nearly a decade, the Dayi area of the Giant Panda National Park once again captured photos of mother giant panda and her son. According to Zeng Zejun, the deputy director of the Dayi Conservation Station in the Giant Panda National Park, in 2014, the local area caught footage of giant panda carrying her cub through thermal cameras at the Xiling Snow Mountain Qiedaoyan area. At the end of 2023 and this year in early 2024, two different pairs of panda mother and son activity scenes were caught in the Wutonggou area of Xiling Snow Mountain. Based on this, it is speculated that at least two new giant pandas are living in the Dayi area of the Giant Panda National Park..

It is a good sign of increasing panda number as well as panda territory. Dayi is the mountain area by the western Suburb of Chengdu City at only 40km away from the city.
