There are total 6 panda bases in Sichuan Near Chengdu. All of them are located in or near the city of Chengdu. All panda bases keep pandas in enclosures. They are Chengdu Panda Breeding Center, Dujiangyan Panda Park, Dujiangyan Panda Valley, Wolong Shenshuping Panda Base(usually referred to as Wolong Panda Base), Wolong Hetaoping Panda Base, Yaan Bifengxia Panda Base. All panda bases are open to the public except Wolong Getaoping Panda Base. So which panda base should visitor choose to visit?

Chengdu Panda Base has the largest number of pandas and also it is the most covenient one since it is only 10km to the city of Chengdu. Wolong Panda Base also has a large number of pandas and it is located in the mountain near the actual panda homeland by the elevation of 1800m but it is also the newest panda base of all. Bifengxia is the furthest one from Chengdu but it is also the oldest panda base and the one that feels like forest. Among these panda bases Chengdu Panda Base, Dujiangyan Panda Park and Dujiangyan Panda Valley have red pandas.
If you have limited time then go to Chengdu Panda Base. If you want to see pandas that live in their actual homeland/environment then go to Wolong Panda Base. If you want to take photos resembling pandas in the "wild" then go to Ya'an Bifengxia Panda Base. If you want to see Red Pandas then go to either one of the 3 bases mentioned above. If you want to avoid crowd then go visit panda bases in the early morning or later afternoon. If you want to choose the least touristy panda base then you go to Yaan Bifengxia Panda Base or Wolong Panda Base early morning. If you want to see pandas in very close range, then go to Chengdu Panda Base where some pandas are kept in glasses that directly only meters away with visitors.
If you want to see pandas in the wild. It's possible but very hard.
