Minya Konka is called Gongga Shan by local Tibetan people. The 5-day hiking goes from the nomadic village to the hidden monastery Gongga Gompa. It starts and ends in Chengdu and provides the authentic experience of hiking in the remote part of Sichuan. This is a good package when you have limited time for Minya Konka.
Book NowStart from Chengdu in the morning from your hotel and drive for about 5 hours from the Chengdu plain into the mountains. An optional visit to the tea plantation at Mengdingshan. Arrive in Kangding in the afternoon and acclimatize yourself. Walk around in Kangding, the biggest Tibetan town in Kham.
Today is rather an acclimatize day when you will use the car from Kangding and drive over the 4300-meter road pass at Zheduo Shan. After Zehduo Shan you enter into the cultural Tibet. The drive will take about 5-6 hours to Gonggashan Xiang and with beautiful landscape on the road. After Gonggashan Xiang you will switch to local cars to get over the Tsemed Pass and dive down to Tsemed Village where you will spend the night.

Start from the village and walk through primitive rhododendron forest on trail of gradual ups. Trail becomes wider where it is decorated by hundreds of prayer flags. These Tibetan Buddhists prayer flags waft the trail leading us to Gongga Gompa. Read the bilingual "Notice" before head towards the Gompa at the open-air doorway. This Kargyupa monastery has long been a basecamp for Minya Konka expedition teams. Gonga Gompa offers excellent views of Mt. Minya Konka, the eastern-most 7000er, the highest in Hengduan Mountains of 7556 meters. Visit the Gompa temple after arrival.

Start today after a little walk around the Gompa and watch the sunrise by the Gompa. Gongga Gompa provides one of the best locations to have a full view the peak of Gonggashan. The walking starts by the Gompa and retrace a little before walk to the lower Tsemed village where you will continue to walk in the valley until reach today’s campsite at Bawang Lake.

Start in the morning glow by the lake and walk out to Caoke. This is the final part of your trek. Walk should take about 3 hours and arrive at noon. From where you will be transferred back to Chengdu directly, the transfer will take about 5-6 hours. After arrive in Chengdu, have a nice shower and meal. Trek ends.
Winter is not an option for this Gonggashan Hiking. A good time to travel here would be May, June, July, August, September and October. In the monsoon season July and August the mountains are green. In September and October, weather starts to get cold.
Strong walking boots are necessary to do this trek. In this hiking, some sections of the walking trail are rocky and muddy.
Rain proof and Sun block are also necessary when you come to Mount Gongga. The average elevation of this hiking is over 3500 meters. Weather changes quickly.
This is a camping trek, it can also be altered into a lodge-based trek.
Traveling to the listed places will expect lower standard services at hotels and restaurants even if they maybe the best choices. The service level is not as up to what you have in places like Chengdu. The hotel people don't speak English nor do the people from restaurants. These places are quite far, wild but beautiful. As authenticity comes often with less comfortability. Public Toilet can be really bad. You are always recommended to use your toilet in your hotel while you don't want to use the public toilet or do it in the open wild. You are recommended to have toilet paper with you. Food are with limited options at most of the places. Basically you can find Chinese Food with Sichuan style. On a guided trip you can have them customized into vegetarian or non/less spicy.
