Summer is usually from June to August in Minya Konka. Summer is the wettest and also the warmest season in Minya Konka but please note even it has more rain than other seasons it is still considerably drier than many places in China such as Shanghai or Chengdu where summer is largely under the monsoon from Pacific Ocean. In Summer by Hailuogou Base (1600m) during daytime it gets to around 20-25C or above and during night time it gets to around 15C or above. By Kangding (2500m) during day time temperature gets to around 20-25C or above and during night time it gets to around 10C or higher. By Tsemed (3400) it gets to around 15C or higher during daytime and 10C or lower during night time. By anywhere at above 4000m it gets to above 10C or higher during day time and around 5C or lower during night time. The temperature can get high up to over 20C when sun comes out no matter how high you are at.

Summer is usually the best season to travel to Minya Konka for visitors and hikers due to its warm temperature. Temperature becomes less of the concern while traveling in Minya Konka in summer time. Normally temperature stays above 10C or 5 C even if you are at over 4000m. One negative side of traveling in summer is that it usually gets foggy or even rainy therefore mountains can be hidden in the fog. From our former experiences we see more rain in July and more sunny days in August. If you are really unlucky it could rain for consecutive days for around 4-5 days while it won't be consecutive heavy rain non-stop but rather half day with rain and half day without. It could even have good weather days in between. From our experience the rain usually comes after midday and more rain at night than during the day. Please don't be mistaken that it rains a lot in Minya Konka in summer. It just has more rain than other seasons here. It is still considerably a dry place in China.
Because of the steep terrain, flood is possible in Minya Konka in summer especially in July. There is high chance of landslide by the east side of Minya Konka where you see most of the rainfall happens. Roads by the east are made safer now we haven't had any major cut off of road since 2019 when the Yakang Express Highway is completed. West and North of Minya Konka are drier and has more open terrain that flood is possible but not much damage it will cause. For a Minya Konka Trek there is one section in moxi valley in July that has high chance of landslide that may cut off the river and change the current, making the river dangerous to cross. When this happens, we need to use another route or avoid going to the section.
Rain reaches the peak by roughly around early July but this is not definite. Usually after days of rains the weather will become very good. It will be very nice to be traveling in one of the sunny windows in summer. According to our former experience we have seen very good weather record in August that sometimes it has very clear days or cloudy days without rain for a big part of August.
Please note in summer it has very big temperature change in a day or even in hours in a day especially when altitude is high at 4000m or over. While camping the temperature may become a less concern than keeping yourself dry. Hiking in summer your first priority after coping with altitude is to keep yourself dry, for both yourself and your gears. It is necessary to use rainproof for yourself and dry bag for your gears and clothes. Note the water-resistant jacket maybe good for light rain but we still recommend you to use umbrella or raincoat when it rains because when your jacket gets wet it also makes you feel cold and will bring down your body temperature.
We see the most travelers in Minya Konka in July and August when the mountains are at their greenest. July and August are also the school summer vacations when families tent to spend their time in the western Sichuan region for holiday.
Summer is the greenest time of the year when all the flowers will be blooming and wild animals roaming the wild land. Summer is also the most-favored time for local Tibetan people. Local people will spend most of the summer in the mountain taking care of the yaks. From end of August, we may start to see light snow at over 4000m when weather is not good.
