Hailuogou Glacier is a 4-season place to visit due to its relatively lower altitude range. The best seaons to travel to Hailuogou is usually from May to November. The monsoon comes by June and ends by August. The winter is from December to the next February. Overall Hailuogou is a dry place with less rain/snow than places such as Shanghai or Chengdu. It has the most rainfall in summer time (June to August) but it will still be drier than Chengdu or Shanghai. Summer is wetter when in comparison to other seasons in Hailuogou.
If you wish to see mountains with high visibility then we recommend you to come after September til the next April when in general the weather is stable and clear. From May it starts to get cloudy and monsoon starts. If you want to be traveling in warm seasons we recomend you to travel from March to November when temperature is relatively higher. In late spring and early autumn you will have window of good visibility and warm weather. To see mountains and glacies you may need clear days. The weather from October to the next April are usually clear and the chance of clear weather is high in these seasons but these seasons may also be colder. From May to October is usually the monsoon season when the rain and snow comes. Most people travel in warm seasons between May and October hence the less busy season is from November to April.
Please note there is a big difference of altitude in Hailuogou and Yanzigou. The lowest part is at around 1500m while the highest parts of the parks are at above 3000m so please be prepared for the lower temperature by higher altitude and possible changing weather due to drastic elevation change.
Try to avoid major holidays in China when you plan your trip to Hailuogou including first week of May, first week of October when there will be lots of other visitors traveling, making the road and park crowded. The other busy season include summer time from July to August and weekends in winter time.
