Jiuzhaigou May Partly Open During the National Day

In July last year, Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area, which was closed due to the mudslide disaster, may open some scenic spots during the National Day this year.

According to the Sichuan Media “Huaxi Dushi Bao” report, on June 29, 2019, the Jiuzhaigou Cultural Tourism Development Strategy Symposium was held in Chengdu, focusing on the progress of post-disaster reconstruction work in Jiuzhaigou and when reopen to public.

In this regard, Liao Qing, deputy general manager of Jiuzhaigou Tourism Group, said that “Jiuzhai is currently closed for underway construction, and some of the scenic spots are probably open to the public on this year’s National Day.”

She also mentioned that the scenic spot is mainly engaged in road construction currently, and “We used to go to Jiuzhai to see the water while in the future we can also enjoy some cultural activities.”

Previously, at 21:19 on August 8, 2017, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake occurred in Jiuzhaigou County, and the reception conditions in Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area were seriously affected. The Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area Administration subsequently issued a notice saying that in order to ensure the safety of tourists, Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area stopped receiving tourists from August 9.

After about 7 months of restoration and reconstruction, Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area opened part of the landscape in March 2018. However, after more than three months, the Jiuzhaigou scenic spot had to be closed again due to the outbreak of mudslides.

The Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area Administration issued a notice on June 28, 2018, saying that there has been continuous heavy rainfall in the Jiuzhaigou County area recently. On the night of June 25, Jiuzhaigou scenic spot has experienced serious mountain torrents and mudslides. In order to ensure the safety of life and property of the tourists, the Jiuzhaigou County People's Government, the Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area Administration, the Aba Grand Journey Group Company and the Aba Prefecture People's Government agreed to take the temporary decision from July 1, 2018. The closure of the park measures to suspend the reception of tourists.
