Destinations Visited: Qizanggou(1 day)
Departure: Private Tour / Flexible Date
This is a Chuanzhusi-based tour that you will start and end your tour in Chuanzhusi. If you are an active traveler and wish to add on more challenging activities to your visit to Jiuzhaigou then this is one of the top recommendations. Qizanggou is a wild place with mountains and lakes not easily accessed by mass tourists. Its beauty is hidden away in the high mountain. This tour involves walking at high altitude but the views are rewarding.
Book NowStarting from your hotel in Chuanzhusi and drive for around 20km to Awen and switch to local transfer for another 12km and arrive hiking starting point by Yuhaizi in Awen Valley. The last 12km of driving can be very bumpy because it is still an unpaved basic country road. The views in Qizang Valley are different than that of Jiuzhaigou or Huanglong. You would probably see no one around and have all the beautiful mountains and valleys to yourself.
The hiking is straightforward: one way in and same way out. Therefore the hiking is flexible with distance and difficulty level. You can walk for 4km to Caohaizi Marsh Land and turn around for total 8km of hiking with easier pace, or you can walk for 8km to Hongxing Lake and turn around for total 16km with more challenging pace. Elevation by Yuhaizi is 3500m, elevation by 3650m, elevation by Hongxing Lake is 4000m. Hiking trails are good and safe trails. To go to different places in the valley one needs to plan differently. You are recommended to start early if you plan to hike to Hongxing Lake.
After a short stay by the end point of hiking, go back to Yuhaizi and drive back to hotel.
Remember to have a day pack with you to take necessary items for the day hiking, including packed lunch by yourself, drinking water recommended 1L minimum, sunglasses, rainproof, warm-keeping clothes and hat, sun block and lip oil, etc. Note the warm-clothing and rainproof (for both yourself and your pack) may not be used while hiking but since weather changes quickly and hard to predict in the region, it's wise to bring these items with you all the time.
