Tagong is also called Lhagang. This is a 2-day tour from Kangding to Tagong visiting the highlights of Tagong including Anigongma Nunnery, Great Mani Stone Pile, Minya Grand Temple, Tagong Monastery and its authentic nomadic people and village of Tagong.

Day 01 Kangding - Tagong

In the morning start by a drive from your hotel in Kangding for about 2.5 hours and arrive in Tagong. On the drive way we will make a stop by around 4300m by Zheduo/Yala Road Pass to take a short walk . The views change while we drive to Tagong Grassland. Landscape is different in Tagong as in Kangding. Here in Tagong we will see nomads on rolling grassland with many yaks and tents. After arrive in Tagong Grassland we will go to Balangshengdu village and from there we will walk the grassland of Tagong on the ridgeline to appreciate the open views of vast Tagong grassland in the afternoon. Our hiking will end by a big Buddhist School in Tagong from there we will go to our hotel. Afterwards wander through Tagong complete with its ‘cowboys’ on horseback riding down the main street and if time allows visit a special Buddhist temple Tagong Monastery. Tagong Monastery is a 1200-year old monastery in Kham, one of the oldest around here. Learn the history and culture about the monastery by your guide.

Day 02 Tagong - Kangding

In the morning feel free to walk around before we start our trip todayy by a short drive to Anigongma Village. Lead accross the seemingly unending grassland dotted with Yaks, horses and local Tibetans we start walking above the village of Anigongma. We will see Snow-capped high mountains add a beautiful back drop to the meadows far below. We will visit working monasteries and experience their way of life through talking to the monks with your guide as interpreter. After the monasteries we walk into the back valley of wilderness to enjoy nature. We will have good views of Yala Snow Mountain and the giant Minya Konka Mountains from far. This is a wild hiking. Walk for about 6-7 hours on the ridge before transfer back to Kangding for 2.5 hours. Tour ends.

This tour is available all year round.

Strong walking boots are necessary to do this trek. In this hiking, some sections of the walking trail are rocky and muddy.

Rain proof and Sun block are also necessary when you come to hike at Kangding. The average elevation of this hiking is over 3500 meters. Weather changes quickly.

Traveling to the listed places will expect lower standard services at hotels and restaurants even if they maybe the best choices. The service level is not as up to what you have in places like Chengdu. The hotel people don't speak English nor do the people from restaurants. These places are quite far, wild but beautiful. As authenticity comes often with less comfortability. Public Toilet can be really bad. You are always recommended to use your toilet in your hotel while you don't want to use the public toilet or do it in the open wild. You are recommended to have toilet paper with you. Food are with limited options at most of the places. Basically you can find Chinese Food with Sichuan style. On a guided trip you can have them customized into vegetarian or non/less spicy.

This tour involves walking at high altitude at over 3000m, people with cardiac-related conditions, cerebrovascular disease, hypertension, arrhythmia, respiratory diseases, obstructive pulmonary diseases (bronchial asthma, bronchiectasis, emphysema, active tuberculosis, pneumoconiosis), pregnant women and people who have been diagnosed with high altitude pulmonary edema, high altitude cerebral edema, high altitude hypertension, high altitude heart disease, and high altitude polycythemia are not recommended to do this trip.
