Sichuan Food in Leshan

Leshan is one of the best places in Sichuan to try Sichuan Food. Some cuisine from Leshan are loved by many people all over China. The famous cuisine include Chuanchuan (a hotpot-like food that are cooked on sticks in a pot), Qiaojiao Beef and Bobo Chicken, and many other things you may find them in Chengdu and even in other cities in China especially Chuan Chuan. If you are traveling in Leshan and Emeishan as one of your stops in China and you love to try different Chinese food then you definitely won’t want to miss out the good food in Leshan.

Many have pictured the food in Sichuan being spicy but it’s not all true. There are total 3 different categories of Sichuan Food, the Upper River Sichuan Food, the Small River Food and the Lower River Sichuan Food. Chengdu and Leshan are the Upper River Sichuan Food which are the least spicy Sichuan Food among the three. The other two being Zigong Cuisine and Chongqing Cuisine. Another feature of the Upper River Sichuan Food is is richness in variety of the tastes of food: spicy taste is a main taste among the many other tastes in Upper River Sichuan Food. Another feature of Leshan Food is it has many “snacks” that are not usually big decent dishes that are served on big tables but rather small snacks that you can find just around the street corner. Leshan people sometimes are very proud of their own food and many are happy with their own way of making food. Only in here one can try the most authentic Sichuan Food and Leshan Food.

Zhanggong Bridge Food Street

The best place to try Leshan Food is in a place called Zhanggongqiao (or Zhanggong Bridge). It is the number one food street of Leshan City that not just visitors go there but also local people go too. Zhanggongqiao is located within the city of Leshan by the west bank of Minjiang River, some 2km northwest to the park of Leshan Grand Buddha Ticket Office. A short taxi ride will take you here within 10 minutes. The total food street is not super big but it gets busy especially by evening. Lots of the restaurants offer tables and seats that you can sit down and order different kinds of food and snacks.

Suji Old Town

Suji Old Town is another good place to try local Leshan Food. It is also a street of restaurants that you can sit down in one of them and order different things other than the food stalls. Outside of Suji there is a small river that you may still see some old houses that is part of the Suji Old Town. Most part of Suji have been rebuilt and renewed. Suji is located 15km west to Leshan and a nice place to make a stop if you like to explore beyond the usual tourist places.
