Climbing trip in Sichuan involves services of transfers, translator, food, climbing permits, environment protection fees, obligated liaison officer, porters and pack horses, accommodations, local guides.
The items obligated by authority are:
The services that you can choose are: (these are not obligated but in practice, companies don't sell climbing permits alone. )
You will need at least a translator, a local guide to take you to the base and to get around. You can cut down cost by using more economy hotels and public transport instead of private transport, save cost on porter by carrying stuff on your own, taking care of your own food, etc
Years ago this business was completely controlled by government and by then you had to use their full package of what's listed above, with standard regulated and not negotiable. By now it's still half-controled by the authority but you get to choose level of services you want and cut off things you don't need. Sichuan Travel Guide can sort the paper work for you but we are not the authority. We work as an agent to apply for climbing permits and arrange for logistics. We talk to SMA to save your trouble.
If you are an experienced climber and wants to do the climb on your own and to cut off cost as much as possible, please feel free to contact us via email and state clear of this.
