Genyen Massif is located in the middle range of Shalulishan Range in Hengduan Mountain Range in eastern Tibet close to the border to Tibetan Autonomous Region of China close to the national highway of 318. It is a big massif traversing the north and south of the highway. The highest mountain in Genyen Massif is called Mount Genyen itself (6204 meters above sea level), the massif is named after the highest peak. It is composed of several dozens of 5000+meters unexplored mountains including the named one Mt. Xiaozha, Mt. Yangmolong, Mt. Kamailong and Mt. Xialong Rezha. Former climbers have run into trouble with local people sometimes in their expeditions here but despite these troubles, Genyen Massif provides probably wildest and unexplored mountains in this part of the world. Most of the mountains have not been explored or attempted at all and the few mountains have been summited are with not many attempts. Many of the mountains in Genyen are technical or mixed.
To get to Genyen Massif one normally drives from Chengdu for 2 days. Although there are airports available now but from the airports to Genyen will also need a minimum of 1 day’s time. From Kangding Airport drive to Genyen will require 1.5 days’ time, from Yading Airport requires 1 day’s time to drive to Genyen.
