Aba County

Aba here refers to Aba County or Aba Xian (Aba County).

Aba County is located near both Qinghai and Gansu Province in northwest Sichuan Province in Ngawa Prefecture. Aba is home to many places of interests including the natural park of Nyenpo Yurtse, Manzhatang Grassland and Shenzuo Village.

Nyenpo Yurtse

Nyenpo Yurtse

Nyenpo Yurtse is a cluster of towery rocky mountains located on the border of Qinghai and Sichuan Province. There are many lakes and rock towers inside the massif many are over 5000m. It has two parks one on the side of Sichuan Province and the other on the side of Qinghai Province. The one in Qinghai has been shut off due to environment issues while the one in Sichuan remains open to visitors. Nyenpo Yurtse is located 40km west to Aba County by driving it takes only 1 hour.

Shenzuo Village

Shenzuo Village was listed as one of the most beautiful villages in China once and a secluded land in Aba. Its elevation is 3100m, and it is located in Chali Village, 65km from Hongyuan Airport, 65km from Aba County. Shenzuo is believed to be "place where immortals live", a perfect example of Amdo Tibetan people's village. There are places to visit in Shenzuo Village. Chali Monastery is an old Gelugpa monastery built in 1823, located 13km from Shenzuo Village. Old houses in Shenzuo are made available for visit. Some of the houses are over 100 years old.

Manzhatang Grassland

Manzhatang Grassland is also called Manzhatang Wetland. Manzhatang Grassland is a vast area of wetland and rolling mountains of grassland. Manzhatang is located northwest of Aba County, 460km north to Chengdu. Manzhatang Grassland connects the grassland in Honhyuan and Zoige, forming one of the biggest wetland in China and also one of the biggest grassland in Sichuan Province. Average altitude of Manzhatang is 3400m. Manzhatang is also the origin of Yellow River. In Summer there are millions of yaks living on the grassland, flowers blooming, making it a very good travel destination in northwest Sichuan. Manzhatang is home to many protected wild animals including 117 different species.

Aba Molang Festival

Aba Molang Festival is a celebration of Buddha. It is also called The Great Prayer. It was originated from the founder of Gelugpa Tsongkaba. Molang Festival is the main holiday in Tibetan Amdo Region especially in Amdo Sichuan in Ngawa Prefecture. You will find this holiday is largely celebrated in Aba county. Molang Festival is celebrated from the 3rd day to the 17th day of the first lunar year of Tibetan Calendar. During this celebration, people will conduct ritual dance, chatting, Buddha display.

Molang Festival

Aba County has been a center of communication in this part of Tibet between Qinghai, Gansu and Sichuan Provinces. Within this county there are some 43 monasteries and has some splendid architecture built. Monasteries in Aba are the best places to watch a Molang celebration, among which Langyi Monastery, Gemo Monastery have the most grand performances.
