Maoxian is Mao County. Maoxian is a town north to Wenchuan and home to some beautiful places in Sichuan including Songpinggou, Diexi Lake, Jiuding Mountain, Taiziling Ski Resort and the Ancient Qiang Village. Maoxian is located 180 north to Chengdu by driving it takes around 3 hours. In the town of Maoxian there is not much to see but the beauty of Maoxian is hidden in the mountains around. On a ground trip to Jiuzhaigou, Dagu Glacier Park, one has to pass Maoxian.

Jiuding Mountain is a mountain that is good for hiking. On the top of Jiuding Mountain one has open view of more mountains and the big gorges of rivers. Jiuding Mountain is located in Nanxin of Maoxian by the southern part of Minshan Range. Jiuding Mountain is above the Ski resort of Taiziling. The open meadow on the top of Jiuding is a popular camping place to watch sunrise, and to see the clouds below. Bailong Pond on top of Jiuding is a small lake that is at 3240m by elevation. Jiuding is a popular place for hikers to visit in summer to see the flowers in sunny days.
Taiziling Ski Resort is one of the ski places in Sichuan near Chengdu. Taiziling has a more complete of ski lanes than other ski places in Sichuan. Every year from December to January many people come here to ski. There are three different levels of ski lanes in Taiziling.
Maoxian Ancient Qiang Village
Qiang people is the unique group of people exclusive in Sichuan. Qiang people live in today's Wenchuan, Maoxian. Maoxian is the hometown of Qiang People. There are many ancient villages of Qiang including Baishi, Mutou, Pingtou, etc. The ancient Qiang Village outside the town of Maoxian is a rebuilt complex of qiang houses that tries to recover what the ancient kingdom used to look like. Now it's a tourist park that people can visit to see its culture, custom, etc.
