Wolong is not only home to wild pandas and the captive pandas at Wolong Panda Base, but also home to some of the short hikes in beautiful nature in the panda reserve. Included here are the main beautiful hiking destinations in Wolong: Panda Mountain, Ganhaizi Lake and Dengsheng Valley. If you are looking at to do some nature trips while visiting the pandas or just want to walk in the panda reserve, the places listed are very good choices.
Wolong Panda Base is one of the panda bases in Sichuan that keep the captive pandas for scientific research and for visitors to look. Wolong panda base is also a place where people can do volunteer works to feed and pandas, clean panda enclosures etc. Wolong panda base is by far the largest panda base in China in terms of number. Wolong panda base is the one that is actually located in the natural panda habitat.

Panda Mountain is a mountain top that has an open view of more mountains in Wolong Panda Reserve. It is located near Gengda Town by the back of the panda base in Wolong. To visit Panda Mountain it involves a short walk of around 6km on easy trail. Views are very open and one can see the gorges below and the bigger mountains above. Total visiting time to Panda Mountain takes around 3-4 hours. A local transfer is necessary to get to the start of hiking. Entrance fee is 20 yuan /person.

Ganhaizi Lake is a mountain top with open views and a lake on top. Ganhaizi is in general a very good hiking place in Wolong. On the weekend, you often see people come here to hike. There is also a local transfer involved to drive to the start of hiking. To walk to the top of the mountain is around 2-3km single way. After arrive the lake there is more beyond to explore to walk higher and further. The views on the top is stunning: higher mountains, rolling clouds, and in autumn season golden forest. Ganhaizi is within the panda reserve. Entrance ticket is 20 yuan / person and total visiting time is around 4-5 hours minimum.
Dengsheng is a wild valley of forest and river at the elevation of 2800m. Dengsheng is by the side of highway where one can easily access. Inside the valley it is well-paved trail and boardwalk alongside the river. Dengsheng is one of the deep places in Wolong Panda Reserve that people are allowed to enter. Local people have built a trail that connects the higher part of Balang Mountain to the highway. Dengsheng is a perfect place to watch birds and to do a short hike or acclimating hike before going to the four sisters mountain park.
Wolong has some other places that are beautiful including Yunzhong Ranch, Zhuoxi Ranch, etc.
