Nyenpo Yurtse Park (in Chinese: Lianbao Yeze) in Sichuan side is officially a park that is open to visitors. It is home to craggy rocky towers, highland lakes with convenient access by roads. Nyenpo Yurtse is one of the most unique landscapes in China to travel to. It is a hidden gem of beauty in northwestern Sichuan by the border with Qinghai Province.
The massif of Nyenpo Yurtse refers to a much larger area between Jigdril County in Qinghai Province and Ngawa County in Sichuan Province. The north, west and northeast of the place are shut off due to environmental issues. The only part of Nyenpo Yurtse that is open is located by the southeast of the massif from Ngawa County (Aba Xian).
From Ngawa County it is around 70km by driving, it takes around 2h to get to Nyenpo Yurtse. From Chengdu it is around 550km by driving that takes over 10h to get to. The nearest airport is Hongyuan airport that is around 180km to the park of Nyenpo Yurtse.
Nyenpo Yurtse is a 4 season place to travel to. Winter is clear but cold and dry and there is chance to see snow and ice-covered lakes. Spring is short from April to May when it starts to get warmer and will have relatively a stable weather. From June to August is usually considered to be the best seasons to travel to Nyenpo Yurtse due to its flowers and green color of mountains. September to November are underrated seasons to travel to Nyenpo Yurtse because of its good weather and relatively warm climate.
The rocky towers of mountains stand above the green grassland and above the lakes. The road goes through the mountains. It brings you to the world of wonders and an ambiance of LOR worlds. Many have imagined the mountains with pyramid towers into different objects including bamboo sprouts, guardians of Buddha… There is a high point in the park at around 4400m that strong cars can get to. It is a perfect place to take photos of the rocky towers of Nyenpo Yurtse (Sichuan).
Lakes are one of the best things in Nyenpo Yurtse. The park has many lakes and the ones that can be accessed by road include Zagar lake (Zhaga’ercuo) and the artificial lakes that were made later including Boxiang Lake and Luoxia Lake by the side of the road. It is unfortunate that the part of Nyenpo Yurtse is not open to visitors, for there has the biggest and the most lakes of Nyenpo Yurtse.
If one wishes to go beyond and explore the wild part of Nyenpo Yurtse, the valleys north to Zagar Lake are free to explore. One can go trekking, horse-riding in these valleys to explore more lakes including Tsonama Lake, Loyuntso Lake, Dzugmutso Lake and mountains including Tsuyu Peak(5141m), Mt. Kebi Zalong(5119m) and several 5000ers beyond Tsonama Lake. You may also go beyond the borderline to Qinghai Province to the bigger lakes and to see the bigger peaks including Rakyl Valley, Demotso Lake and beyond to exit the mountains by the north where the most beautiful mountains and lakes are located.

Nyenpo Yurtse is far from any major city in China. There are two popular ways to plan a trip to Nyenpo Yurtse. One is to have a circuit road trip in NW Sichuan province to include other places of interest including Jiuzhaigou, Zoige Grassland, 1st Bend of Yellow River, Bipenggou Park. The other is to do an overland tour from Qinghai to Sichuan Province or the other way and pass one of the wildest land of China to include Nyenpo Yurtse. You are normally recommended to have one night in Abaxian (Ngawa) where decent hotels are plenty to choose. Roads are very good in both Sichuan and Qinghai.

Neynpo Yurtse has a very high altitude. Please be aware of this while traveling here. If you plan to camp up here please be well-acclimated before going camping here because of the park is at over 4000m. The highest part of the park is close to 4500m. The town of Aba is at 3300m.
There are very limited places to find food inside the park even during busy travel seasons. Please prepare food by yourself beforehand. There are no accommodations available in or near the park of Lianbao Yeze. Overnight hotels can be found in the town of Aba which is around 2h drive away.
