Flower Lake

Flower Lake ?? in is a wetland park in Zoige. It is one of 3 connected lakes and the only one that is open as a tourist park for visiting. Flower Lake is a good example of high altitude marshland of bio-diversity. The whole area has been protected and it is home to many species especially the many birds. The other two lakes are called Tsor-Gan and Tsor-Ha. Flower Lake is one of the best places to see on the vast Zoige Rher Grassland, the second largest grassland in China and one of the three wetlands in China.

A trekking trip to Genyen usually requires about 1 to 2 week’s time. The trek at Genyen is normally hard camping trek. In Genyen you can see many snow-covered mountains including Mt. Genie itself, Mt. Kaimailong, Mt. Xiaozha, Mt. Hutsa, along with the local villages and nomadic Tibetan people and monasteries.

Location of Flower Lake

Flower Lake is located 50km north to the town of Zoige(Ruoergai). By driving it takes around 1 hour to get to. From Langmu Monastery it is around 1 hour driving for around 40km. From 1st Bend of Yellow River to Flower Lake it is around 110km takes 2 hours by driving.

What to See/Do

Highland Marsh, flowers and birds are the main highlights of the Flower Lake. The tourist center is by the east of the road. After buying tickets one needs to walk far across the road bridge and then to the tourist bus and ride tourist bus for around 20 minutes into the heart of the marshland. The grass grow on half lake and half marsh and flowers blooming from June to July. In a good weather day one shall see the mountains of Zhasage by the east and the vast grassland by the west. It is overall very open view.

Travel Season

The best season to travel to Flower Lake is from late May to October. It is indeed very short season and September and October are also good seasons with more clear days if you are not keen to see birds. Winter is not good to travel here due to snow and cold conditions.
