Foreigners are unoffically noticed NOT allowed to visit Larung Gar (Sertar Buddhist School). Pirate trip to visit Larung Gar is still possible but risky.
As a company, we are not allowed organize tours there for foreigners. But we know people who has experience who can take foreigners there on pirate visit. Anyone who wish to go there may contact the following people: Li Hai (chengdutourguide@163.com), or Jinshan (wechat: 13689094250) to check if they can take you to Larung Gar and show you the back door to visit the school.
A pirate trip will involve driving in early morning, walking for hours up to the mountain, and will still have risks of being told to go back wihtout seeing the school but will have much lower chance of so than if you are going there unguided.
Resident from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan are okay to visit Larung Gar. People from these places need to go to the police station of Sertar to register first and then will be arranged a visit to the school with domestic Chinese visitors.
Sky Burial is no longer available to anyone. The local school has shut off sky burial for visiting permantly.
