How to Choose the Right Siguniangshan Trek Plan for You

4/5-day trek is takes more time and money, but each day's walking is shorter and easier. 2/3-day trek costs less time and money but each day's walking is longer and so harder. The longer plan has higher chance of summiting and the shorter the lower.

From base of mountain to the summit has a total elevation gain of 1900m from 3100m to 5000m with a distance of 17km single way.

The rate of a successful summit to Dafeng is from our former experience of working on Siguniang Dafeng Summit trips. In reality for a specific trip it may still be different from the numbers in the chart.

Please also note in different seasons the chance of summiting varies too due to different weather conditions. Usually Summer and Autumn (from June to November) you have higher chance of summiting than Spring and Winter time (from December to May) due to weather conditions. In Spring the chance of heavy snow is higher than other seasons and in winter it is the coldest season. For more information on Siguniang travel season, pleaseread here.

Dafeng Summit Trek Planning

Former Experience Helps

When looking at these 2 options you also need to take your former experience into consideration. What is the highest altitude you have ever been to, when was the last time you have been to such high altitude, how long did you walk the last time you were at such altitude and how did you feel, how similar are these places to Siguniang Dafeng: terrain, general walking elevation, hiking trails, sleeping conditions, Will food be an issue in general. Questions like these are helpful for you to make a well-judged decision. For example, in general if you have done an Annapurna Trek in recent months, that is qualified as good experience to do Dafeng even with shorter time of acclimating.

Fitness Level

If you are fit, it also helps. Please also take your own physical condition into consideration but please do not over-consider. In general fit people cope with high altitude quicker because your body can take longer and heavier stress. That is you are often advised to have decent physical preparation before a trip like this. If you consider yourself to be a physically strong person, you are good to do Dafeng but please also be aware expedition like this requries not only a strong physical condition but also a good ability to deal with uncomfortable conditions for example, wet/cold weather and all sorts of issues derived from this: muddy trail, wet clothes, wet campsite, freezing hands, inadequent sleep/food, when you feel sick, etc.

High Altitude Alert

Trek to Dafeng goes to the highest point at 5000 meters, you will be walking at an average or around 4000 meters and you will be sleeping at around 4000 meters. If you look up for the percentage of the world's population that lives at over 3000 meters above sea level, you will find out that the percentage is not high. If you live in a place that is at a very low elevation, jogging miles a day doesn't necessarily qualify you as a fit person at over 4000 meters. Please respect nature. Please read more here about the high altitude tips and information about trekking to Dafeng.

It's not always about the age

We have seen people at the age of 8 and at the age of 80 who did the summit of Dafeng with proper training and acclimating. Dafeng Summit is a hard trek you don't need to be a climber to do it. However we have also seen so many people who should have made the summit yet they didn't, these people are not 8 years old nor 80 years old. Among these failed summits, some of them were results of ignoring the safety guidelines, skipping proper acclimating and physical training, etc.

It is above all that you make the decisions that will affect your own safety. In adventure travel like this, it is always wise to see the risks and take precautions and understand what you want to get out of a trip like this. Have fun and stay safe on your trip to Dafeng!
