Tagong is open for traveling all year round. Good seasons to travel to Tagong is from May to November although the other months are also good for traveling.
In spring (March to May) it is windy and the grassland starts to become green in May. Temperature will change from below 0C in February to above 5C in May at night, and during the day temperature gets above 15C even in a sunny day. Expect windy weather in spring time in Feb and March and sometimes cloudy days from April as the moist starts to gather more here.

In Summer (June to August) Tagong Grassland is into the greenest time of the year and it's also the most vibrant time on the grassland. Yaks are roaming the mountains, Tibetan people are having picnic in the open land, visitors are visiting, special celebrations are held on the grassland and in the monasteries. Temperature gets to above 10C at night and above 20C or higher during the day. Thunderstorm and sudden shower of rain become possible on Tagong Grassland. In general Tagong is still a very dry place, given that summer has most of the rainfall of the year here. Sunny summer days are the most amazing days on Tagong Grassland.

In Autumn (September - November) Tagong Grassland starts to have its color changing from green into yellowish and temperature drops grandually from 20C in September to around 10 C in November during day time. Autumn is drier than Summer and usually a popular season for traveling. Autumn is not the best time in Tagong color-wise but it is the best time for traveling weather-wise: much higher chance of clear days, not so cold and not so hot while the mountains have not turned into complete dreary color yet.

In Winter (December to the next February) the weather in Tagong is cold. Water and lakes start to freeze up from late November and strong wind comes. In Winter the days are clear and blue sky is there everyday but because of the windy weather and dry land the views are always hazy. Temperature is between -10 C to 10 C in winter here in Tagong in general. Days will become shorter and morning being the coldest time of the day. Often people want to be moving around after 9am each day.

Please note Tagong Grassland is a rolling land of grass not forest. If you want to come to see the green color make sure you travel between June and September and not late September. The prime green color is from late June to August. The rest of the year the grassland is in yellowish color.
