Horse racing Festival is held on Tagong Grassland on the 15th of the 5th month of Tibetan calendar(usually falls into the late July or the head of August). It is a tradition of games of horse racing, archery and horse riding contests. participants are cowboys from around. Winners are honored with Harda and packs of Tibetan tea. There are also other games like Guozhuang dancing, Lions Dancing and tugding war.
During this week-long festival, people are draw from around wearing colorful dresses, setting their tents on grassland. Kham people happy people. They believe horse racing is an auspicious activity. Humans are to be exempt from eveil and disasters by taking part in it. It is also a gathering for Buddhas. Ceremonies in monasteries will be corresponding with horse-racing festival.
