The Great Peace Prayer is a performance of sutra chanting and peace praying?It is a common practice in Tibetan Buddhism. The Peace Prayer in Tagong is held in the villege called Geremah on Tagong Grassland once in a while from the tenth Tibetan Lunar month up to the first month of the following year.
Tagong is one of the major sites that have Prayer at present. The Peace Prayer in Tagong was first conducted by Nyingmapa Drogha Rinpoche in 1998. During this event, pilgrimes from around come to the grassland to watch the Prayer and pray along with Lamas. The crowd reaches the maximum on the last day of the Peace Prayer(15th of the first Lunar month); there was a time that the participant number reached 100 thousand.
On the day of Prayer, chanting and parying sometimes keep on from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fasting is applied by Monks and Pilgrims during the Prayer, luxury and flashy dress are not supposed to be wore. There is also non-talking fasting in the morning when conversations are replaced by continuate om mani padme hum. The only vegetarian meal of this day is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The pious chior and hanging prayer flags along with the huge Mani stone pile are undoutedly the highlights here during this event.
