Tagong is one of the best places to do horse riding in Sichuan Province. Tagong has open views of grassland, mountains, village and monasteries that are located on a vast area. When hiking is too much stress given the high altitude, horse-riding is one alternative while visiting in Tagong.
Where to do the horse-riding?
A. From one of the usual tourist stops such as the Muya Golden Tower Tourist and many more stops between Bamei and Tagong where local Tibetans have their hoese ready and take you on a short ride. These rides you don't have to book before hand, you do there and do the riding. The horse riding at these locations will be limited to a small area around 200 meters far from the roads and the riding is around 10-30 minutes.
B. Book horse riding session with local tour operator. Sichuan Travel Guide has an office in Tagong Town by Grassland Hotel, where we can arrange you an authentic horse-riding experience into the wild grassland and nomadic villages, lakes with great views, mountain ridges that you can see mountains all around. These horse-riding will be pre-arranged and is usually one full day activity, sometimes half day's too.
How much is the horse-riding?
A. For the tourist quick riding horse option it is between 100 to 200 yuan per ride per person. But these are quick and you don't have to book anything before hand. It's more like an simple experience with horses, good for people who just want to try the horse-riding for a little or who has only limited time in Tagong but still want to try horse-riding. And these are very easy to buy as long as it's travel season and during day time there are local hoses people trying to offer business around Tagong. But these riding are by the roads and usually there are other tourists there too.
B. Pre-arranged half-day or full-day horse-riding in wild grassland and villages. These kind of horse-riding cost around 400 to 500 yuan per ride per person. As said above these ridings are more authentic, longer and suited for people who want to have a deeper experience. It takes longer time and cost more money but it takes you to see more things you don't see on the roads. These usually need to be booked before hand and it's one of the authentic and exploring activities in Tagong.

The horses are own by local Tibetan people. For every horse-rider there will be a horseman or horsewoman to lead the horse.
