Mengdingshan is a well-made tea plantation in Yaan. It is located 110km southwest to Chengdu and 10km away from the city of Chengdu. Mengding is the origin of tea in China the first place in China ever started to use tea as a drink and planted tea.
Mengding is the first place ever recorded to be a tea plantation place in China as early to around 2000 years ago.
Wulizhen is the person who first planted the tea trees here. Gongcha means ""best tea that serves the royal family" was famous in Tagong Dynasty and all the way to Qing Dynasty. Tea, at the beginning of its planting, was regarded as medicine and then became tea. Mengdingshan is the origin of tea drinking culture.
Mengdingshan is a mountain that requires walking and using cable car inside the park. The park itself is also a tea garden. The highest point of Mengding is 1456m. From top of the mountain in a clear day, one can see Mt. Emei, Mt. Wawu, Mt. Gongga, Qionglai etc.
Mengding plays a significant role in Chinese Tea Culture as the origin of tea drinking. There are many records in books of its historical significance in tea culture in China. There is a museum on the mountain that exclusively dedicated to tea and tea history in China. There is also a Red Army museum due to the long march that has passed here.
