Wangyu Old Village

Wangyu is probably one of the most authentic old villages in Sichuan.

Wangyu Old Village

Wangyu Old Street was built in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. The main building is located on a huge boulder protruding from the mountainside. Although the site selection of Wangyu Ancient Village emerged from the former post road, it also embodies the traditional Chinese concept of feng shui, that is, elements such as "pillow mountains, surrounding water, and face screen".

Wangyu Old Village

Wangyu is located deep in the hills and is small in scale. It is not well known yet. Like other ancient villages, most of the young people here have gone out to work, leaving only some old people and children. They live a laid-back, uncontested life, appear peaceful and serene, let alone the noise of the modern city. It is this simple folk customs and quaint old streets that merge into one, which has become a highlight of Wangyu.

Wangyu Old Village

There are many ancient towns in China, each with its own characteristics, but there are very few ancient towns like Wangyu Town, which still retain their original appearance, making those who are lucky enough to walk in "awesome". Wangyu Town is located on the upper reaches of Zhougong River 35 kilometers south of Ya'an City, Sichuan, adjacent to Wawu Mountain Scenic Spot in Hongya County. It was an important post on the Southern Silk Road and Linqiong Ancient Road (the Ancient Tea Horse Road) in and out of Chengdu. It is also the origin of Ya'an's famous specialty "Yayu".

Wangyu Old Street is a long, narrow, in-line long street. A bluestone road runs through the entire street. The pavement has been polished by the years to make it faint and glowing. Walking on it is reminiscent of the merchants and caravans on the Ancient Tea Horse Road. Both sides of the street are all wood-structured blue-tile houses and stilted buildings. The exquisite corrugated walls, corners, window mullions and carvings on the pillars reveal the prosperity of the past. These buildings used to be Yamen, Yinzhuang, pawnshops, pharmacies, embroidered buildings, hotels, restaurants, tea shops, and theaters, but most of them have now become private residences. In ancient times, there were long stone ladders with gates at both ends of the old street, which can reach the river and connect with the new street.
